Q. How can I be sure Kordia will be able to provide the coverage that my company needs?
Kordia, in conjunction with Maritime New Zealand, uses a national network of high sites. Due to the location and height of these sites, the achieved land to vessel distance is in excess of 150-kms in some cases, and is unparalleled by any other land-based AIS network.
Q. How many sites do you have?
We have seventeen sites that are used to provide complete coverage 4m ASL around New Zealand’s coastal waters.
Q. How do you gather data?
We use specifically engineered antenna systems and high sensitivity receive units to gather the data transmitted by the AIS terminals within the coverage area.
Q. What happens if a site goes down?
We use a fully redundant core network. With no single point of failure in the core network, loss of one receive site does not affect the delivery of data from the remaining sixteen.
Q. Where do you store the data you gather?
The AIS data is distributed and stored on Kordia’s Server Storage Network (SSN) platform. The SSN platform is the heart of the AIS network and facilitates distribution of the data to Kordia’s customers.
Q. Does Kordia provide incident reporting?
We are able to provide incident reporting and historical analysis of specific vessels, fleets, or regions. These can be used to investigate incidents, determine traffic flow and routes, identify areas of high navigational risk, and for evidential purposes.
