Kordia is Australasia’s leader in maritime solutions
Kordia is responsible for maritime communications covering nearly a quarter of the world's oceans.
In New Zealand, the Maritime Operations Centre is recognised as a world-class model in providing safety-of-life-at-sea services (SOLAS). Owned, maintained and operated by Kordia since 1993, this is a turnkey service provided for, and on behalf of, Maritime New Zealand.
Based in Canberra, Kordia’s Maritime Safety Communications Services provide the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) with a means of communicating with vessels in distress via High Frequency (HF) radio.
The Maritime Safety Communications Centre is responsible for one of the world’s largest Navareas, covering a total area of 58.2 million square kilometres.
But communications in distress situations is only a small part of our role in New Zealand and Australia. We also provide access to ships in need of medical advice, weather forecasts and a plethora of services to the vessels within Navarea 10 and 14.
We are able to fulfill these obligations using a multitude of cutting edge technologies including radio, satellite and microwave links, dedicated and secure internet connections.
We are passionate about safety of life at sea and can record details such as position, course, speed and meteorological condition on an electronic chart. It’s why we are in the best position to provide you with vessel monitoring via our highly reliable national Automatic Identification System network.
